As the country, and our city, enter much harder economic times, Nashville will without a doubt see growing numbers in crime. Sadly, this is a historical and statistical certainty. Between 2019 and 2020, violent crime rose by an alarming 9%, and that was during the "good times." And what do our current mayor do to combat this? He spent millions on a "community driven violence reduction" plan. Instead of putting the responsibility on the criminals, he placed it on the citizens of Nashville to handle. That is absurd to me and I will tell your right now, when it comes to violent and other serious crime, I am no non-sense. I want criminals and contemplating criminals to be damn well aware there will be zero tolerance for serious crimes including theft, vandalism, assault etc in our city. As mayor I would propose the type of of punishments for serious, premeditated crime that would seriously make any criminal with even a humble pocket of brain cells reconsider their choices. Less serious offenses, like littering would have more compassionate and creative repercussions, especially for the misguided youth who are still learning how to deal with life. On the other end, when it comes to hard, ugly crime, I will be as tough as they come. The worst of them, we will send to California and Chicago. Nashvilleans must feel safe in their city. There is no if, and, or but about this. We cannot see Nashville turn into Los Angeles or Chicago. We live in a city of hope, kindness, and creativity, and Nashville must stay that way. I believe if Hal Cato or another mainstream muppet is elected, you will see the same guy who stole your Honda Accord, out of prison and stealing your neighbor’s generator the next week. No, this is not conjecture. You can have a mayor who does the nice thing, or you can have a mayor who does the right thing.. but you can’t have both.
With that said, I will never turn a blind eye, and will be just as hard on making sure our police are held fully accountable for their actions. If an officer has a record of misconduct or is proven to maliciously break certain protocol, he will also be dealt with no non-sense. Our police are here to protect and serve, and I want that ethos to always be alive and recognized by both our officers and citizens alike. Nashvilleans should not feel nervous when they see our police, they should feel comforted, and I believe if both parties up hold their duty to our city, this relationship is fully possible.
